The Molodjoschnaja Chokkeinaja Liga is a multinational junior hockey league that was founded in 2009 as the junior league of the Continental Hockey League (KHL). In the first year of the league’s existence, only teams from Russia took part. Starting in 2010, teams from seven other countries were included. The players of the league are between 17 and 21 years old.
Mode
It is played in a West and an East conference. West Conference teams can meet East Conference teams in the play-off final at the earliest. In the basic round, all teams play against each other four times in their conference. The first eight teams of each conference qualify for the play-offs. The winner of the play-offs will receive the Charlamov Cup.
Many of the 31 teams serve as farm teams for a KHL team, further teams are the junior departments of franchises of the second class Wysschaja Hockey League. The second division below the Molodjoschnaja Chakkeinaja League is the Molodjoschnaja Chokkeinaja League B.
