The OPPO International Championship 2018 was a snooker tournament in the context of the Main Tour 2018/19 season, which was held in China from 28 October to 4 November. The seventh edition of the tournament took place in Daqing in the north-east of the country for the fourth year running.
In the previous two years the winner in Daqing was Mark Selby. This time, however, he was eliminated in the quarter-finals. Last year’s final opponent Mark Allen from Northern Ireland made it into the final for the second time in a row and this time secured the title by beating Neil Robertson 10:5. He won his fourth big ranking tournament.
Prize money
The prize money was significantly increased by a further £75,000 in 2018. This made it the third most important tournament of the season after the World Cup and the China Open. One third of the extra money was used to increase the prize money. The remaining £50,000 was distributed in smaller amounts between the losers of the last 32 round and the quarter-finals. The entry premium of £4,000 for the winners in the qualifying round remained unchanged.
Final Round
From Sunday, 28 October, 72 players competed in Daqing: 56 already qualified players and 16 players who played their qualifying matches as so-called heroovers (games transferred to the main venue), including the four Chinese wildcard players. Two days had been set for the matches that had been made up and the first round. Each round, from the last 32 to the quarter-finals, was played on one day. The two semi-finals took place on two different days and went over two sessions, as did the final on Sunday 4 November.
Qualification
Apart from eight matches, the qualifying round was played from 9 to 12 October 2018 in the Barnsley Metrodome in England. The top two in the world rankings, Mark Selby and Mark Williams, as well as the two best Chinese players, Ding Junhui and Liang Wenbo (games 1, 5, 48 and 64), played their games in China. Four games with Chinese wildcard players (games 4, 52, 54 and 61) were also transferred to Daqing. All games were played in best-of-11 mode.
