Futsal is an internationally recognised form of indoor football which is still little known in Central Europe. This is partly due to the fact that no media attention is paid to this sport and partly due to the fact that European countries do not have even any rudimentary high-performing teams in club sport or in the national teams. Particularly in Germany, this is not entirely comprehensible due to the perfect focus on football.

History

The origin of futsal lies in South America, more precisely in Uruguay. In 1930, the sports teacher Juan Carlos Ceriani wanted to develop a special form of football for children there and put it into practice. However, it took 12 years until in 1942 the South American Association of Sports Teachers discovered the potential of this sport and expressly recommended it for teaching. This was the first decisive triumph of futsal.

Ten years later, the first official league called “Futebol de Salão” was founded in Sao Paolo in 1952. However, it took until 1989 for FIFA to recognise this sport and officially include it in the catalogue of recognised variants of indoor football. The name of the sport derives from the original term and also from the Spanish variant “fútbol sala” and means nothing other than simply indoor football.

It is not surprising that futsal is widespread in countries with strong ties to South America, such as Spain or Portugal, and that some of the best players come from these countries. Apart from that, this indoor football variant has also established itself in Eastern and Southern Europe and has allowed Russia, for example, to mature into a very strong team.

In the whole there is probably nowhere a so professional play enterprise like that in Spain the case is. There is a league with 16 teams, which play the championships among themselves.

Explanation of the rules for Futsal

Sports rules Futsal differs from other variants of indoor football in that it simply uses a handball field as well as handball goals. In addition, there are no boards, only lines that limit the playing field. In futsal, a team consists of five players. For the game itself, a game ball with reduced pressure is used, so that the bouncing and jumping are somewhat reduced. The playing time is 2 x 20 minutes.

Rules or rule variants from other sports found their way into the futsal. Beside the playing field according to the specifications of handball, there is a flying change as well as in handball. From basketball the rule was added that from the fifth team foul there is automatically a direct free kick on the opposing goal per half time. Futsal is indeed a physical game, but fouls are also punished very quickly and consistently. This is exactly the reason why fouls are usually avoided, and also because direct free kicks can often lead to goals. Penalty kicks are generally shot from a distance of six metres.

The goalkeeper is subject to a very strict back pass rule. This should basically motivate the game forward and prevent the ball from being held in the back. The goalkeeper may touch the ball only once and hold it for a maximum of four seconds.

This four-second rule also applies to all resting balls, similar to basketball (throw-in, etc.). If the time is exceeded, the possession of the ball changes.

Also in futsal there is a red card for correspondingly hard fouls, but here the application of the regulation in handball applies. Although this player is excluded for the next game, the team may be completed with another player after two minutes.

The decisions are made by a team of two referees, one of whom acts as the main referee and has decision-making power.

Types of bets for futsal

Sports betting possibilities Unfortunately, the betting possibilities in futsal are extremely thin and difficult, since it is still an absolute marginal sport and hardly anyone asks for bets on this actually very beautiful indoor football variant. The offer is mostly limited to the already mentioned Spanish professional league and also the Russian league. There are actually only three types of bets:

Types of Futsal bets

  • Winner – As in well-known football, the option of 3-way bets and thus on victory, draw or defeat is also found in futsal. This type of bet can also always be found with all providers who offer bets for this sport.
  • Over/under – Not at all, but at most sports betting providers you can also bet on the number of goals in a game (over/under).
  • Handicap – The third betting option is handicap betting, which gives a team an advantage or disadvantage right from the start, which must be compensated for by the handicap betting with a corresponding result.

Tips and tricks

Sports Tips & Tricks In Futsal, you can count the number of available games almost on two hands. The betting offer is correspondingly small. One can only give the tip that before placing a bet one should inform oneself very precisely about the teams and games, as long as one is not already deeply anchored in the matter as a follower of this sport. Especially due to the very small distribution and the necessity of special knowledge, the motto of exact information applies all the more.

Significant events

In addition to playing the national championships, if available, there are now several international competitions. In addition to the World and European Championships under the auspices of FIFA and UEFA, FIFA’s other continental championships should also be mentioned.

There is no kind of Champions League here, but the UEFA Futsal Cup is a similar institution. There is also the Futsal World Cup and the South America and Asia Cups.

Important players and futsal teams

Sports Player Teams There are many football players who were active in futsal before their football time or who keep fit during their actual career in futsal. Futsal itself requires far greater technical competence in handling the ball than football. It is therefore not surprising that top players like the Brazilian legends Ronaldo and Pele were also active in futsal at that time.

As mentioned before, the teams from Spain, Portugal, Russia, Italy and Belgium are the standards in European futsal. In addition, there are some South American teams on an international level.

In contrast to Germany, futsal is becoming more and more popular in Austria and it will be interesting to see whether this will sooner or later be reflected not only in club sport, but also in the national team.

Records

Betting Offer A very impressive record is definitely the number of 350 games that the Brazilian international Falcao has already played for his nation. If you compare this with football players, it’s an enormous number.

The World Cup in Brazil in 2008 was also the most goal-rich championship to date. A total of 387 goals were scored here, an average of 6.9 goals per game.

However, the highest average so far was achieved at the 1992 World Cup in Hong Kong with 7.7 goals per match, simply because there were few matches with only 40 matches and 16 teams.
