The Coppa Italia Primavera, officially called the Primavera TIM Cup for reasons of sponsorship, is a football competition played between the youth teams of the teams belonging to the Lega Serie A, which manages the event, and the Lega Serie B, ie the same teams also enrolled in the Championships Spring 1 and 2.
The winners acquire the right to participate in the Spring Super Cup. Inaugurated in 1972, however, the competition has a historical precedent already in the sixties.
Regulation and formula
The tournament is entirely based on the direct elimination formula, similar to the Coppa Italia. Participation is extended to 42 clubs.
The first eight teams of the last Spring 1 Championship are recognized as “seeded” and qualified directly to the round of 16. With the exception of the semi-finals and the final, played with round-trip matches, all the other rounds (preliminary, round eight, quarter-finals) are played in a single game: in the event of a draw at the end of regular time, extra time and penalty kicks are provided. The clubs newly promoted to Serie B play an extra qualifying round.
