The league Le’umit is the second highest league in Israeli football.
Mode
The league Le’umit is currently played with 16 teams. At the end of the regular season, in which a double round between all teams takes place, two groups are formed: the first group consists of the eight best teams of the round, the second of the remaining eight teams. In both groups, the results from the 30 matches of the preliminary round will be broadcast and a single round will be played between the eight clubs. Better-ranked teams will receive one more home match than the others.
While in the promotion round of the best eight teams the two promoted teams in the Ligat ha’Al are determined, there are from the relegation round two direct relegators in the third-class league Alef, as well as a relegation place against the best group second from the two groups of the third league.
Ascent regulations
Since the 2012/13 season, the Israeli championship in the Ligat ha’Al has been played out with 14 clubs instead of 16. At the end of the 2011/12 season, only one team was promoted from the Le’umit League. From now on, two clubs will be promoted directly on a regular basis and replaced by the last two clubs of the Ligat ha’Al.
