The International Floorball Federation (IFF), founded on 12 May 1986 in Huskvarna, is a professional sports federation which represents the sport of floorball worldwide. Its members currently include 52 associations with a total of more than 309,000 players in 4,330 clubs (as of 2015).
History
IFF was founded in 1986 in Huskvarna, Finland. First President of the Federation was András Czitrom. The IFF is based and has its office in Helsinki, Finland.
It is a member of Sportaccord (until 2009 GAISF/General Association of International Sports Federation) and was provisionally recognised as a sport by the Executive Board of the International Olympic Committee on 11 December 2008. The IFF now aims to be included in the programme of the Summer Olympics 2020.
In January 2009, it was announced that floorball had been recognised as a sport by the Special Olympics movement, which organises the World Games for people with mental and multiple disabilities. The IFF aims to be represented in the Special Olympics programme by 2013 at the latest. The IFF also cooperates with the International University Sports Federation (FISU).
